A Sustainable Holiday Villa
We believe in making tourism as sustainable as possible to reduce our carbon footprint and put as little additional pressure on local infrastructure and the ecosystem.
Solar Panels
In an effort to achieve this, we have installed a 12 panel solar array on the roof of Cortijo El Esparragal. This generates in excess of 30 kWh on the sunniest of days. This provides amply electricity for everyday functions at Cortijo El Esparragal, including running the pool filtration system during daylight hours. We are currently considering the addition of a battery to store sufficient electricity to reduce our dependency of the grid even further.
EV Charge Point
We have installed an EV ‘wallbox charger’ with ‘Type 2’ connector for guests use. We hope that this will encourage more environmentally friendly transport to and from Cortijo El Esparragal and also help us achieve carbon neutral tourism. A nominal daily charge applies. Further information on request.
Water Recovery
Andalucia is home to the hottest and driest climates in Spain with yearly average rainfall of around just 200mm. So, water is scarce and we take the preservation of water very seriously.
At present, waste water generated as a result of cleaning the swimming pool is stored and used to the watering of our plants and trees. We are currently planning a rainwater and ‘grey water’ recovery system to reduce our water consumption as far as possible.
